Stunningly rendered drawings of childhood.
After more that 25 years as the Head Scenic Artist at the National Theatre, London, Vernon-Smith is now making artwork exploring her own memories of childhood, living with her Grandparents in a small terrace house in Tottenham.
Vernon-Smith's stunningly rendered drawings, portray her with her Grandfather (with one false leg, and another under the bed), her dressmaking Grandmother, her cat and a tortoise. Vernon-Smith says 'we were always together, but often strangely separate, as we were doing different things in the same room.'
Having made her first series of drawings at the start of 2021, Vernon-Smith is now revisiting set design, scaling up her drawings into life-sized, interactive, installations.
