Jacqui Grant: 3 Artworks & 3 Questions

01 June 2026 in Studio Fridays Artists by Paul Regan

To help you get to know the Studio Fridays artists better, I’ve asked each of them to share three pieces of their work and answer three questions about their practice. Here is……

Jacqui Grant

1. The piece I am working on now is:

….. part of my ‘Isolated Body Parts’ series. In this piece I’m responding to the sexualisation of women’s nipples. I am making them out of embroidery, appliqué and beading, all traditional female pastimes and historically one of the few creative outlets women had.

2. My favourite work from last year is:
Effie
42cm x 30cm
Machine embroidery and appliqué with textile covered frame
Sept 2025

3. My favourite piece I have ever made is:

…… the bra sculpture, “stop staring, my eyes are up here”. Everyone gets it instantly and it is funny whilst having a serious message

4. Describe your work in ten words or less:

Feminist led textile and mixed media art

5. What was your 2025 highlight?

The highlight of 2025 for me was exhibiting several times in Edinburgh’s House of Smalls gallery. It is female run gallery that is so in line with my work it could have been made for me. Every exhibition has a serious social message. Go if you can!

6. What subjects are you most interested in?

I am interested in women’s rights and social issues around equality and fairness. Plus the societal pressure put on everyone to be a certain way, however it affects us. As a neurodivergent woman I see unfair treatment in many places and want to fix it. Despite these being serious issues, I like to inject humour into my work and try to make it accessible to everyone.
