Margaret Crutchley: 3 Artworks & 3 Questions

17 March 2026 in Studio Fridays Artists by Paul Regan

To help you get to know the Studio Fridays artists better, I’ve asked each of them to share three pieces of their work and answer three questions about their practice. Here is……

Margaret Crutchley

1. My favourite work from last year is:
Irises, Acrylic on Canvas, 50 x 50cm, 2025

2. The piece I am working on now is:
The Grand Bridge at Blenheim (unfinished), Acrylic on Canvas Board, 30 x 40cm, 2026

3. My favourite work ever is:

Snow in the garden, Acrylic on Canvas Board, 40 x 50cm, 2015

4. What were your 2025 highlights?

Recognition is always important for an artist, so I was delighted to be accepted for the ING Discerning Eye Exhibition at the Mall galleries last year.

5. Describe your work.

I am a landscape artist who also enjoys painting portraits.  My work is representational, with a strong sense of design and a celebration of colour.

6. What subjects are you most interested in?

I am initially drawn to a subject by the place itself, of course, but largely by the interest of the colours I can use. It is also essential to me to have a bold composition, so that the painting will not only represent the subject, but have a satisfying balance and design in its own right. The beauty of trees has been an inspiration for me and the transition from darkness to light or the contrast between the two is also a motivating idea.
